This client had specific living space requests and existing site conditions to work on their Ancaster landscaping project, creating design and install challenges. The pool was existing, but the adjacent patio needed to be re-leveled, cleaned and flagstone filled in an old, unsightly garden, creating a refreshed appearance. Plant material was added behind the water feature, and lighting was installed to show off the falls at night.

The cabana was old and tired so new exterior sheathing, a timber brow arbour and stone skirting were added to make it look new, matching the other wood and stone features going in ie. Pavilion, fireplace, grill island and bar veneer and counters.

The existing deck looked tired and worn, so old steps were removed, new armour stone walls and India steps were installed to bridge the deck height with the proposed new grade level. New glass railings ensured the security of the space…and the views. The client also contracted a painter to finish the wood for a new look upon completion of the landscape work.

Three living spaces needed to be incorporated into an existing slope of unsightly lawn and unusable terrain between the yard and pool. A BBQ grill island and sitting area close to the pool, but not too far from the back deck and a bar counter with room for stools between the sitting areas. Each area was to also incorporate a fridge and storage doors to complete the space.

An outdoor pavilion was essential to enjoy the outdoors in the full sun of the afternoon and during any rainy weather. It needed to incorporate a fireplace as the client seeks the outdoors during all seasons, but it couldn’t restrict views of the property to the north, of trees and fields, from the existing deck and new pavilion area. They also wanted a rustic finish for the feel of a cottage setting and an outdoor TV.

An artificial turf putting green was a necessity for the clients’ love for sports, and fit very well connecting to the pavilion and grill island areas. Armour stone boulders, India stone benches, planting and lighting were added into the sloped area to create an enjoyable putting area for day or night. Overall, the clients’ needs were met, and the property is set up as a Great Escape for years to come, in all seasons and both day and night.
